This course provides the necessary technical and skills in drawing and page composition that are required in illustration and publication. Historical and contemporary examples of publication designs (as in magazines, newspapers, and books to include annual reports, product catalogs, comics, newsletters, journals, etc.) are analyzed according to their content, message, function, and audience. Students will make criticism about their formal element of publication design, looking not only at the graphic design, but also at the printing and finishing techniques.

This course is structured to assist art educators in developing an understanding of the theories and approaches in Art Education. By the end of the course you should be able to 1) Describe the goals of art education as stated in the national school curriculum 2) Explain the contemporary approaches to art curriculum development and their historical antecedents 3) Demonstrate various theories of learning and artistic/aesthetic development and how they relate to curricular development in art 4) Apply various approaches to evaluating art curricular and assessing the art competencies requirements.

Attention will be given to the problems associated with assessing process, product as well as of criticism historical and aesthetic concept of the discipline of art education. At the end of the course, students should be able to: 1) Snythesise the findings in the context of assessment and evaluation in art and design education curriculum 2) Demonstrate communication skills related to assessment and evaluation in art education context 3) Demonstrate autonomous learning in asssement and evaluation related to visual art education context.
