Is the Project Constructively Alligned to the Expected Outcome?
E-Portfolio as Measurement Mechanisms and Approaches in Assessing Learner’s Performance and Growth of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Various learning approaches have been introduced to establish the most effective way to engage students in developing these certain skill sets. These approaches include higher order thinking (HOT), self-directed and project-based learning (PjBL). Although integrating ICT in the learning process has the potential to support this aim, Trucano (2015) states that “there are still many unknown things about the approach of the best or most efficient in the use of ICT to meet the goals”. In most of the settings, the lack of measurement tools is the cause of the difficulty in evaluating the impact of ICT in higher order thinking, self-directedness and project-based learning.
Therefore, the suggested approach will allow us to assess learners’’s performance to make sure that ICT is significant with its influence in the educational setting. For instance, the European Union (EU) is still actively designing and developing approaches to measure learner’s’ performance such as ICT4E although it has yet to be widely applied. However, the roles and potentials of ICT in bringing major changes to the education system are undeniably extensive. There is an increase in the sophistication of technology, and the roles of ICTs in providing rich and effective tools to transform teaching and learning are in becoming more autonomous and entertaining.
Past studies reported and discussed about measurement approaches in assessing learner’s such cognitive load (Fred Paas & Juhani E. Tuovinen 2003), effective (McEwen 2007) and learning strategies (Diana Baas, Jos Castelijns & Marjan Vermeulen 2015), formative assessment (Caroline 2015), performance-based (Zangoueinezhad & Moshabaki 2011), competence-based (Juan Manuel Vaca Mercedes Rico 2012) and reliability and validity (Baume & Yorke 2002; Ross 2006). These studies lead and discovered the essential elements to enhance learners’ higher order thinking skills and self-directed learning.
Additionally, this project will examine e-Portfolio Assessment is to ensure the growth of ICT is significant. The reason for this is because the researcher still believes the usefulness of e-Portfolio is actually to support the social interactivity by having a monitoring and feedback to encourage self-directed learning. Self-directed learning can only take place when teachers customize their teaching, provide guidance and collaborate with the students to meet the learning outcomes.
